300 sign up in a day: Government’s big push to save Parsi population gains momentum

The Universal Parsi Registration Drive special facilitation camp, organised by the Ministry of Minority Affairs with support from the Bombay Parsi Panchayat in Mumbai, witnessed an overwhelming response, with around 300 fresh registrations completed on the Jiyo Parsi portal.

The initiative marks a significant step in strengthening outreach within the Parsi community.

Jiyo Parsi Scheme is a flagship Central Sector Scheme of the Government of India aimed at addressing the declining population of the Parsi community. Launched in 2013–14, the programme seeks to stabilise and increase the community’s population through structured interventions and scientific support.

Under the scheme, beneficiaries receive:

Medical assistance for fertility treatments and pregnancy-related care
Community health support, including financial assistance for childcare and care of dependent elderly
Advocacy initiatives such as counselling, awareness campaigns, and outreach programmes

Addressing the gathering, Joint Secretary at the Ministry of Minority Affairs, Shyama Prasad Roy, reaffirmed the government’s continued commitment to the welfare of the Parsi community.

He encouraged eligible beneficiaries to come forward and avail themselves of the scheme’s benefits, while also urging registered members to share feedback to further strengthen its implementation.

The strong turnout at the camp reflects growing awareness and trust in the scheme, reinforcing the government’s resolve to preserve the rich cultural and demographic legacy of the Parsi community.
