3 die in earthquake in West Bengal
West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee confirmed the deaths of three and injury to about 30 in the quake that triggered panic all across the region.
Deaths were reported from Naxalbari and other parts of Darjeeling district while one died in Jalpaiguri district.
West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee said: "There should not be any panic. We have to take all precautions and prevention."
She said the government will do all it can to help the people.
"I am travelling to north Bengal tomorrow to take stock of the situation," Banerjee said.
"I have spoken to the Prime Minister and informed him about the situation in the state. We are assessing the situation," she said.
West Bengal has opened a control room with the number 1070 for the earthquake.
Meanwhile, in a case of panic reaction, students stampeded out of two schools in Malda district when the quake occurred resulting in some minor injuries to 36 children. But four children were taken to hospital.
