2018 suicide case: Bombay High Court refuses to grant interim bail to Republic TV  Editor-in-Chief Arnab Goswami

Mumbai: The Bombay High Court on Monday refused to grant interim bail to Republic TV Editor-in-Chief Arnab Goswami in connection with his arrest in a 2018 abetment to a suicide case of an architect and his mother.

The Bombay High Court on Thursday had also ruled that no interim relief  will be given to the journalist.

The senior journalist has been arrested for allegedly abetting the suicide of a 53-year old interior designer Anvay Naik and his mother couple of years ago in Maharashtra, a state ruled by an opposition party.

He was sent to 14-day judicial custody last week.

Goswami has been having a bitter tussle with the Maharashtra government and police since the death of actor Sushant Singh Rajput.

Republic TV had questioned the handling of Rajput's death, which was later cleared of having a foul play by All India Institute of Medical Science (AIIMS).

The English news channel had a faceoff with Mumbai Police after Goswami's channel was alleged to have fudged television ratings.

Following the arrest in connection with the two-year-old case, several Union Ministers and ruling BJP leaders have blasted the Shiv Sena-Nationalist Congress Party-Congress government in Maharashtra and called out the ruling dispensation for allegedly creating an emergency-like situation in the state.
