Mumbai: A 20-year-old woman was allegedly stabbed to death by her boyfriend, who then disposed of her body in nearby shrubs in Navi Mumbai, according to media reports.

"Deputy Commissioner of Police (Navi Mumbai) Vivek Pansare reported that the police were alerted around 2 a.m. about a girl's body discovered in the bushes near the Uran railway station, Indian Express reported.

Police noted that the body showed numerous injuries and stab wounds, indicating a brutal murder.

The deceased has been identified as Yashashree Shinde, a 20-year-old who had been reported missing.

She was a resident of Uran and worked in Belapur, roughly 25 km away.

The woman’s family filed a missing complaint with the Uran Police Station after they could not trace her whereabouts.

The body was sent to a nearby hospital, where the victim's family identified her. A case of murder has been filed against unknown assailants.

Police suspect that the crime was motivated by a failed love affair.

The victim's father, Surendra Kumar, suspects that a person named Dawood Shaikh is responsible for his daughter's murder.

The police have formed seven teams to nab the accused, who is believed to be on the run.

The crime branch is conducting a separate investigation.
