2 militants, 2 jawans killed in J&K encounter

Srinagar, Sept 11 (IBNS) In a fierce gun battle, at least two militants and same number of Indian soldiers were killed in an ongoing encounter at Zachaldara Handwara in Kupwara district of northern Kashmir, the Army said on Friday.

According to reports, an encounter broke out in Laribal small dense forest area of Zachaldara in Handwara, 100 km from Srinagar headquarter on Thursday night after security forces launched an operation, an Army officer said.

“As the cordon was being laid, militants opened fire on the security forces, which triggered an encounter that is still underway. In the encounter so far two Army men of 21 RR and two militants have got killed,” police sources said.

The identity of the slain soldiers could not be established immediately.
