2 drunkards assault Muslim man in Gurugram, no motive to disrupt communal harmony in area: Haryana police

Chandigarh, May 29 (UNI) Haryana Police has presented the correct picture with reference to media reports which appeared in a section of media about a Muslim man being beaten up in Gurugram for wearing skull cap.

According to the Police, the investigation into the incident that took place on intervening night of May 25 and 26 revealed that there was no deliberate attempt to disrupt communal harmony. Rather it was a criminal offence by two drunkards.

In a statement here on Wednesday, a Police department spokesman said immediately after receiving the complaint, local Police rushed to the spot and started investigation after recording the statement of the victim. A FIR under various sections of Indian Penal code was also registered in City Police Station Gurugram.

He said thorough investigation was conducted by a Police team under the direct supervision of Deputy Commissioner of Police West, Gurugram. CCTV footage of a large number of cameras from the area of incident was taken. One CCTV footage had captured the entire incident and the same was examined in Digital Investigation, Training and Analysis Centre (DITAC) laboratory.

The footage of the incident had not fully supported the allegation leveled by victim Mohammad Barkat Alam. In the footage only one accused person is seen assaulting the victim. As informed by the victim, the accused person was a drunkard. Police has also conducted investigation at nearby liquor vends, shops and business establishment.

Some sweepers, visible in CCTV footage, also joined in in the investigation. Assistance from cyber experts has been taken to analyse the mobile phone calls dump details of the area. Apart from this, eminent persons from both the communities have been requested for help in identifying the accused.

Meanwhile, Police has constituted a Special Investigation Team (SIT) under the supervision of DCP West, Gurugram Sumer Singh to conduct thorough investigation into this case and to crack it at the earliest possible.

Gurugram Commissioner of Police Mohd. Akil who is also monitoring the investigation, has assured the victim and other members about thorough investigation and strict action against the culprits. Police has got some significant leads during the investigation and the accused will be nabbed soon.

He said nobody would be allowed to disrupt peace and take law in their own hands. The spokesman also urged the media to cooperate with the Police in arrest of the accused.
