Students remain absent in NEET-UG exam retest in Chandigarh
Chandigarh: The students, who were supposed to take the NEET-UG exam retest in Chandigarh, did not turn up, even as all the arrangements were made on Sunday, media reported.
Invigilators were present, police were deployed, and metal detectors were installed, yet the two students scheduled to write the retest at Chandigarh's St Joseph's Senior Secondary School remained absent, reported NDTV.
St Joseph's Senior Secondary School in Sector 44, Chandigarh, is one of seven centers chosen by the National Testing Agency (NTA) for the re-examination of 1,563 candidates.
These candidates, as per the Centre's submission to the Supreme Court, were granted grace marks due to disruptions during the May 5 exam. After mass outrage, these grace marks were rescinded, but candidates were given another opportunity to sit for the test.
The NEET exam controversy
The controversy arose when 67 students achieved perfect scores of 720 in the NEET-UG exam.
The National Testing Agency (NTA) said this happened as some candidates were awarded grace marks due to a faulty question and logistical delays in paper distribution at some centers.
However, a Bihar Police investigation revealed that the exam paper had been leaked to a select group of candidates.
The NEET-UG exam, taken by nearly 24 lakh aspiring medical students, was held on May 5, and the results were released on June 4.
Despite the NTA's efforts to manage the situation, allegations of a widespread leak continued with protests and legal actions nationwide.
The Supreme Court also got involved, slamming the NTA for its handling of the issue.
