Nursery or luxury? Viral fee slip of Rs. 2.72 lakh leaves internet stunned

The rising cost of school education is sparking fresh concern among parents, with a recent social media post igniting debate over whether quality schooling is slipping out of reach for the average family.

 A user on X, identified as Sakshi, shared a screenshot of a kindergarten school’s annual fee structure—revealing a staggering total of ₹2.72 lakh per year.

According to the details, parents enrolling their child in kindergarten must also pay a one-time admission charge of ₹48,000. This includes a non-refundable admission fee of ₹15,000 and a refundable caution deposit of ₹33,000.

Notably, the quoted fees exclude additional expenses such as transport, uniforms (including shoes and socks), cafeteria charges, and other miscellaneous costs—pushing the overall financial burden even higher.

The post quickly went viral, prompting a wave of reactions online. While many users criticised the steep fees and called for stricter regulation, others argued that quality education comes at a price.

“This is clearly getting out of control. What is the government doing? Why are there no regulations to curb such hikes?” one user wrote.

“It’s not just about nursery rhymes—it’s about shaping a child’s future. Quality education is worth the investment. Try home tutoring, and you’ll understand the difference,” another commented.

“For that price, they should be learning quantum physics, not just ‘Twinkle Twinkle Little Star’!” a third user quipped.

The debate highlights a growing divide between affordability and aspiration, as parents grapple with balancing rising costs and the desire to provide the best possible education for their children.
