Mumbai, Jun 5 (UNI) The Muslim community on Wednesday celebrated Eid-ul-Fitr, the auspicious festival celebrated to mark the end of holy month of Ramadan, with pomp and gaiety across the city.

The joyous commemoration began as the people clad in new clothes offered annual congregational Eid prayers at 500-plus mosques dotting the Maximum City.

The parting peaceful month of Ramadan was punctuated by the sermons of religious leaders, who prayed to the Almighty for adequate monsoon this year as several parts of Maharashtra are reeling under drought.

Following the annual tradition, the largest number of Muslims, around 50,000 offered the Eid prayers at the historic Azad Maidan under elaborate security arrangements.

After thanking the omnipresent Almighty for the gracious end of Ramadan, the devotees greeted fellow people and shared ‘Sheer-korma',a sweet dish prepared on Eid,with each other.

Prominent personalities from Maharashtra Governor, Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis,to other leaders cutting across political lines extended greetings to the masses.
