Kolkata/IBNS: Mentaid was organised at the St. Paul’s Cathedral here earlier this month.

The holy precincts of the Cathedral were enlivened with the peaceful sounds of songs and music featuring the students and young adults of Mentaid.

Every year Mentaid Sunday is held to create community awareness at both the cultural and spiritual levels.

Mentaid is the first registered Parents’ Organisation in West Bengal, working for the past 36 years for the benefit of children and young adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities, namely, autism, cerebral palsy, and multiple disabilities.

From two children in 1985, Mentaid has over the years helped approximately 500 children and their families.

Mentaid believes in gainful interaction within the community and in this endeavour of theirs, St. Paul’s Cathedral has joined hands to create awareness about disability, participation and support towards inclusion.

Mentaid Sunday is a special service for people with disabilities where they get the opportunity to showcase their activities and talents through songs and dance.

An exhibition of products made by them highlights the work that is being done by Mentaid’s VTC (Vocational Training Centre) trainees.

Breakfast items were also on offer. Sales proceeds from these items go to Mentaid. This year, too, Mentaid Sunday saw a wholehearted participation.
