KNMA and Lilavati Lalbhai Library organise a photography exhibition based on Madan Mahatta's works
New Delhi/IBNS: Kiran Nadar Museum of Art in association with Ahmedabad-based Lilavati Lalbhai Library is holding a special exhibition titled 'Delhi Modern: The Architecture of Independence seen through the eyes of Madan Mahatta' until February 28.
Organised in the Library premises, the exhibition was inaugurated by Parmanad M Dalwadi, a well-known photographer from Ahmedabad.
Madan Mahatta (1932-2014) documented many aspects of life in India since they were established as studio photographers on the Bund in Srinagar over 100 years ago.
Mahatta went beyond the studio's confines and concentrated on documenting the transformation of post-Independence India.
This exhibition brings together some of the iconic images he created of the architecture of the new India that emerged from the late 1940s onwards.
The exhibition forms an important record of how architecture was seen as a demonstration of progress and development.
Several of the buildings photographed are already destroyed as the process of re-imagination and re-development continues.
The exhibition from the collection of Kiran Nadar Museum of Art, New Delhi has been conceptualized by Roobina Karode, Director and Chief Curator KNMA along with Arthur Duff, Head, Lilavati Lalbhai Library, CEPT University, Ahmedabad.
The Exhibition is open daily froom 10am to 9pm until February 28.
