New Delhi, Mar 28 (IBNS): An indefinite hunger strike by students of Jawaharlal Nehru University against the introduction of an expensive MBA course at the university entered its eighth day today.
“We have been sitting on hunger strike; this is the eighth day of our strike against many issues but primarily against the management course which will be inducted from this academic session,” a Swarajya report quoted Sarika Chaudhary, vice president Jawaharlal Nehru University Students Union (JNUSU) as saying.
The MBA course reportedly costs Rs 12 lakh.
According to reports, Vice-chancellor of the university Mamidala Jagadesh Kumar said he could not hold a discussion with 500 people shouting at it. Discussion requires a peaceful atmosphere.
On Monday, a number of JNU students had forcibly entered Kumar's residence and confined his wife inside the house for hours.
The vice-chancellor has said he will not file a police complaint but disciplinary action would be taken against the responsible students.
