JEE Advanced 2018 to be conducted online: IIT Kanpur releases videos to help students taking mocks

| @indiablooms | Jan 01, 2018, at 10:40 pm

The Joint Entrance Examination (Advanced) is conducted by the seven zonal IIT’s under the guidance of JAB (Joint Admission Board). Top two lakh forty thousand students from JEE Main are eligible for JEE Advanced. The exam is held for admission in one of the seven Indian Institute of Technology. Given the multitude of candidates who apply for the examination, the authorized board has decided to conduct JEE Advanced online from 2018.

IIT- Kanpur has been given the responsibility of conducting the 2018 exam online. This is certainly a relief for the appearing candidates as the test will be timed more appropriately and the travelling costs for the student can be minimized to a considerable extent. The test will now be conducted in CBT (Computer Based Test) mode.

IIT-K initiated steps to help students understand the process of the CBT mode by releasing videos. There are dual lingual videos which are available in both mediums i.e. Hindi and English that assist candidates to apply for JEE Advanced online and practice mock tests too. The videos also offer a reservoir of CBT test and mock papers for previous years JEE Advanced that can be extremely useful for candidates.

Advantages & Disadvantages

The advantages of making JEE Advanced online is seen beneficial by both, the governing body and students appearing for it. The online mode of examination will make the logistics and process orientation easy in comparison to a venue based examination. One of the biggest advantages is that the candidates will have a choice to pick between English and Hindi as language they’re comfortable with.

The Computer Based Test mode will also allow candidates to return to the previously solved question to amend their answers, if required. Students who lack the access to a desktop or laptop can login on their android devices. They can even review their attempted and unattempted questions and can directly jump to pages instead of the old fashioned OMR sheets where the possibility of correcting a marked answer was zero. Once the examination finishes and the computer based answer sheets are submitted, candidates have the possibility of reviewing their questions online by logging back to the website page. This can even be done after a few days.

Certainly, the process of examination has become more transparent and one can sufficiently predict their scores in certain sections of the question paper. The OMR sheets were prone to normal wear and tear and added up to the pressurized examination hours which now will lighten the candidate’s burden through the CBT mode.

One major disadvantage to the CBT mode is the lack of sufficient knowledge for the candidates who have never used a computer before. This will be a guided learning experience for all aspirants and help them value the time more efficiently as the IIT-K uploaded mock videos guide you through the process swiftly.
