GRSE Kolkata approaches local schools with messages of hygiene and bad effects of plastic as part of its Swachhta Pakhwada celebration

Kolkata/IBNS: Garden Reach Shipbuilders and Engineers Ltd. organised a cleanliness drive and various other events as part of the 'Swachhta Pakhwada' in the first half of December 2019.

An oath taking ceremony marked the start of the cleanliness drive.

Employees and trainees at TTC Barangar unit also engaged in plogging (picking up litter while jogging; a Swedish concept) 

Many other events were held to mark the programme.

An inter-school painting and quiz competition were conducted at Jagacha High School, Howrah, to spread awareness about benefits of cleanliness and hygiene.

A workshop on General Hygiene, Sanitation and Plastic Waste Management was held at GRSE Main Unit.

Students from10 schools spread over an area of about 10-15 km and 25 CISF Personnel participated in the workshop.

The workshop was conducted by professors from Maulana Abul Kalam Azad University of Technology.

The two week campaign concluded with an inter-school short drama competition on “Bad effects of Plastic”, which was held at the company’s main unit.

The event was followed by a prize distribution ceremony where Rear Admiral VK Saxena, IN (Retd.), Chairman & Managing Director, GRSE, S S Dogra, Director (Finance), Cmde. Sanjeev Nayyar, IN (Retd.), Director (Shipbuilding), Cmde. P R Hari, Director (Personnel) and Dipankar Mahto, CVO, gave away prizes to the winners of various competitions organized during the course of the event.

Said Rear Admiral VK Saxena, IN (Retd.) that the change brought about by the government’s cleanliness drive is visible across the country.

He stated that GRSE has persevered to improve and maintain hygiene and sanitation facilities in schools in the locality.

He congratulated the winners of the competitions and thanked all students and teachers who actively took part in the campaign with so much enthusiasm.

He called upon all participants to come together and work conscientiously to improve cleanliness levels in their surroundings and sought dedicated efforts from one and all to make Kolkata one of the cleanest cities in India.
