Danseuse Dr Sonal Mansingh is an inspiration for many, speakers acknowledge her contribution at Deeksha Mahotsav

New Delhi/IBNS: Sarod maestro Ustad Amjad Ali Khan paid the most apt tribute to veteran Indian danseuse Dr Sonal Mansingh when he said her ‘life is a message of new hope.’

For someone to be told she would be glad to be walking and forget about dancing again after a severe motor accident when she was barely 30 year old, Mansingh not only returned to stage but also went to earn many laurels.

This and other achievements of her life were brought forth at the recently held Deeksha Mahotsav in New Delhi, organized by the Indira Gandhi National Centre for Arts (IGNCA).

This year, IGNCA, at its ‘Deeksha: Guru-Shishya Parampara’ programme, paid tribute to Padma Vibhushan Dr Sonal Mansingh, veteran dancer, guru, and scholar and parliamentarian (Rajya Sabha, nominated).

Dr Mansingh too urged the audience not to give up in life, never feel disappointed but follow the inner voice.

She said she followed her passion despite all the ups and downs in life, and shared some of her experiences.

Speakers, including her students, highlighted Dr Mansingh’s philosophy of life and her achievements through anecdotes.

Dr. Sachidanand Joshi (Member Secretary, IGNCA), Rambahadur Rai (President IGNCA), Sujata Prasad (bureaucrat and author of book titled ‘A Life Like No Other’ on Dr Sonal Mansingh), Yatindra Mishra (author of ‘Devpriya’, a book on Dr Mansingh), Pramod Kohli, Meera Krishna, Santanu Chakraborty, Prof. (Dr.) Parul Shah, Revathi Ramachandran, Vanashree Rao, Dr. Neena Prasad and Ustad Amjad Ali Khan were present at the programme.

The day’s programme concluded with cultural performances.
