CBSE yet to decide on promoting students of classes 1 to 8 and 11 amid coronavirus outbreak

New Delhi/IBNS: While India is under lockdown to arrest the spread of COVID-19, the students of classes 1 to 9 and 11 are still uncertain about their future as CBSE is yet to decide on promoting the students to the next class without examination, said a media report.

An NDTV report said that CBSE spokesperson, Ms Rama Sharma has said that the board is responsible for conducting only the 10th and 12th examinations and decision to promote the students of other classes will be taken after the Directorate of Education's (DoE) decision.

The report said that Kendriya Vidyala Sangathan has announced all students from class 1 to 8 will be promoted to the next class whether or not they have appeared in the final examination.

The Ministry of Human Resource Department(MHRD) has asked CBSE and NTA to work out new dates for class 10 and 12 board exams which were postponed and for JEE exam which were to be held in April but cancelled due to coronavirus outbreak.

Meanwhile, Gujarat Board has announced to promote its students of classes 1 to 8 and and class 11 while Tamil Nadu government has decided to promote the students of classes 1 to 9.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi in a national address on Tuesday (March 24) announced a 21-day lockdown warning all against venturing out and inviting the virus to home.

According to worldometers.info, India has till Wednesday morning 562 positive cases with 10 lives lost to the virus. 

There are 436,481 coronavirus cases worldwide now with 19,643 people succumbing to the virus, according to worldometers.info. A total of 111,888 people have recovered.
