Bhubaneswar: Teachers participate in British Council's education workshops

Bhubaneswar, Feb 13 (IBNS) Over a 100 teachers from schools across India will come together in Bhubaneswar from Feb 13 to Feb 15 to take part in professional development workshops that will teach them to enrich the curriculum.

The three-day Enriching Education workshops, being hosted by the British Council in partnership with KiiT International School, Bhubaneswar, are part of the British Council’s Connecting Classrooms programme, which also facilitates professional development for teachers.

They will discuss using Shakespeare in the classroom, teaching children about World War I as part of our shared history with the UK, using ICT in schools and ways to instil scientific thinking in schools. A workshop on child protection will be compulsory for all participants.

Teachers from private and government school sectors along with a few government officers will attend the residential workshops and receive certificates from the British Council.

A team of UK and Indian experts will lead the professional development programme for the teachers. They include Tracy Irish, Warwick Business School Shakespeare Scholar at The University of Warwick, Timothy Gerrish, International Child Protection expert, Alison Willmott education consultant, Baldev Singh of Imagine Education Ltd and Vimala Oak and Rekha Bajaj from the Royal Society of Chemistry.

Sujata Sen, Director British Council East India, says: “The professional development of teachers increases the quality of teaching in classrooms and ultimately benefits students. I am delighted that the workshops are being held in Bhubaneswar which is an emerging centre of education in the country. I would like to thank KiiT International School for providing us their campus for this training. The UK has rich resources for the professional development of teachers and the links between teachers in UK and India will benefit both.”
