A Calcutta University college introduces Humanity as Religion in admission form, social media abuzz with the precedent

Opening the admission form, now one can find Humanity while selecting 'Religion'.

In total, applicants will get eight options to select their religion. Apart from Humanity, an applicant can find Hinduism, Islam, Christian, Sikhism, Buddhism and Others as options.

Consequently, several Twitterati lauded the college's landmark decision to introduce the new religion.

Praising the "progressive" step, one Twitter user said: "#Humanity can be your religion too!! #BethuneCollege has this option!! Kudos to this progressive thought!!"

Bethune College, which is affiliated to the University of Calcutta, is the oldest women's college in Asia. It was first established as a school in 1849 and as college in 1879.
