West Bengal to witness first COVID-19 lockdown of September tomorrow

Kolkata/UNI: West Bengal will go under complete lockdown on Monday, first in this month, to break the Covid-19 pandemic chain even as the toll in the state rose to 3562 with the death of 52 persons, while the tally touched 1,80,788 with 3087 new confirmed cases.

The lockdown is in continuation of the earlier bi-weekly shutdown since July 23 to stem the spike.

Tomorrow is the tenth day of total lockdown in the state and first this month after July 23, 25, 29, August 05, 08, 20, 21, 27 and 31.

The state will witness complete lockdown again on September 11 and 12.

The State Government also extended lockdown in containment zones up to September 30.

Earlier, the containment zones lockdown was in force till August 31.

No flights will be operational to and from Kolkata on September 7, 11, and 12 when the state will be under total shutdown.

Private offices, Banks and commercial establishments will remain shut during the statewide lockdown.

Public and private transport will go off the roads during complete lockdown.

However, essentials services will be exempted from lockdown.

Meanwhile, the COVID-19 toll in Bengal rose to 3562 with the death of 52 persons on Sunday, while the tally touched 1,80,788 with 3087 new confirmed cases.

According to the latest State Government Health bulletin, the active cases accounted for 23,218, while the number of discharged stood at 1,54,008.

The percentage of discharged rose to 85.19 per cent.

The bulletin said the total number of samples tested stood at 21,58,690 with 46,505 tested in the past 24 hours.
