Two pythons recovered in human habitations released in forest

According to officials here, the pythons – one at Sonamura of West Tripura and other at Dharmanagar of North Tripura came out of jungles.

On the late-night of Oct 12, a big python was seen at the entry point of government Degree College in Madhuban area of Sonamura.

Initially, the villagers tried to push it back to the jungle but the python was not cooperating. Later, villagers caught it and made the python captive in a house and provided food.

About 12 ft long python was believed to come out from the forest to human habitats in search of food , as destruction of forest of late in the area has marred the animal populations to a great extent affecting the animal food chain.

In a separate incident, another python was found on the National Highway at Uptakhali village of Dharmanagar on the same day.

The python was lying on the road for a long time preventing vehicular movement. Police and wildlife officials rescued it and released it in Roua bird sanctuary at night.

The wildlife officials stated that due to large scale human activities in the forest areas of the state the natural habitation of animals was affected and the crisis of food in the forests has now become prominent.

Consequently, elephants, monkeys, pythons, jackals and leopards are now often seen wandering in human localities in search of food that is giving rise to conflict between man and animals.
