The national nutrition week begins in West Bengal

Kolkata, Sept 3 (IBNS): National Nutrition Week is celebrated all over the country during the first week of September every year.

The celebration in West Bengal began at Barasat in North 24 Parganas on Sept 1.

Antara Acharya, the District Magistrate of North 24 Parganas inaugurated the prgramme.

She stressed on the importance of nutrition in human life and asked the district administration to ensure that there is not a single severely malnourished child in the entire district of North 24 Parganas.

N.N.Tiwary, Deputy Technical Advisor, Food & Nutrition Board (Eastern Region), Kolkata explained the theme of National Nutrition Week this year which is ‘Life cycle approach for a better nutrition’.

Nutrition is one of the essential pre-requisite for development and it has been proved that nutrition plays a very important role at various stages of our life cycle.

People of our country are however, not aware of the role of nutrition for which the Food & Nutrition Board under the Ministry of Women & Child Development has been celebrating National Nutrition Week.

The inaugural programme of National Nutrition Week were attended by many distinguished guests including 80 frontline workers of ICDS projects of North 24 Pargans.

The week will be observed through various programme at several places of North 24 Parganas, Howrah and Kolkata up to Sept 8.
