Sanjiban Hospital and Lincoln University College Malaysia collaborate to launch a new Doctor of Medicine program
Kolkata, Aug 30 (IBNS): Sanjiban Hospital (Howrah, India) and Lincoln University College Malaysia recently signed an agreement to launch a Doctor of Medicine program at Sanjiban Hospital campus.
The degree is equivalent to an MBBS degree offered by any Indian medical colleges, the representatives said.
The inaugural programme was attended by Rajya Sabha MP Dola Sen, Tollywood actors Rituparna Sengupta, Sritoma Mukherjee, Biswajit Sarkar and Bhaswar Chatterjee, artist Jogen Choudhury, and National Award winning director Raja Sen.
The students will be trained by the doctors of both Sanjiban Hospitals and Lincoln University; the degree will be honored by Lincoln University.
Along with this degree, various licensing examinations like USMLE, FMGE, etc. will also be offered.
Lincoln University College, located near Malaysia's capital city of Kaula Lampur, have educational ties with 51 educational institutions and Sanjiban Hospitals is one of them.
Sanjiban Hospital is a super-specialty hospital situated at Fuleshwar, Howrah, in West Bengal. It is run by a non-profit organization and it tries to bring affordable health care to the rural people of Benga, the representatives said.
Sanjiban Institute of Health Sciences trains paramedical and all allied health care professionals offering degrees and diplomas approved by the University of Health Sciences and State Medical Faculty.
Dr.Subhas Mitra, Director Sanjiban Hospitals, said, “When we look around us, we see the innumerable diseases that are cropping up every year, the number of patients dying because of the absence of proper technology as well as availability of doctors who are trained to handle modern technologies. This program will train doctors not only in medicine but will introduce them to new techniques of treating diseases. A lot more doctors are required for my country. Setting up is program is my way of giving back to my country.”
The curriculum that will be followed will be in accordance with the US Medical curriculum and the students passing out with this degree will be able to practice globally.
Dr. Amiya Bhowmik, who is a member of Lincoln University, spoke about the various subjects this course will cover and how it will help students who want to practice abroad with different specializations.
Dr. Subhas Mitra spoke about the importance of imparting proper training to not only doctors but to nurses and paramedical staff.
He said, “Nurses, cleaning staff, paramedics all work hand in hand with the doctors; if we don’t care about the hygiene and a cleanliness of a hospital, patients might lose their lives. So along with doctors, we train other professionals also.”
He said, “In this era of commercialization where the lives of the patient have been reduced to money, we need to make sure that every human life is given the treatment that they deserve.”
Actress Rituporna Sengupta congratulated Sanjiban Hospitals on the new collaboration and hoped that this program turns out be a success.
The courses will begin from next year at Sanjiban Hospital, Fuleshwar.
