New Delhi/UNI: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday lauded the Assam government-led by Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma for the step taken for the well-being of one-horned rhinos in the state.

"Commendable effort by Team Assam. The one-horned Rhino is India’s pride and all steps will be taken for its well-being," Modi said, retweeting a post of Assam CM in which the latter wrote on rhino.

On Wednesday, on the occasion of World Rhino Day, the Assam government burnt 2,479 rhino horns which were stored in treasuries to dispel the myth of medicinal value of rhino horns and sent a strong message against poaching and smuggling.
