Minimum temperature over Northwest India to rise gradually in next 4-5 days: IMD

New Delhi: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Thursday predicted that the minimum temperature over Northwest India is expected to increase gradually by 2-3 degrees Celsius in the next 4-5 days.

According to IMD, no significant change in minimum temperatures is likely over Central India during the next 24 hours and it is expected to rise by 2-3 degrees Celsius in the three subsequent days.

“Gradual rise in minimum temperatures by 2-3°Celsius over Maharashtra likely for next 3 days and no significant change thereafter. No significant change in minimum temperatures likely over Gujarat during next 24 hours and rise by 2-3°C for subsequent 4 days,” the IMD said.

The IMD further predicted that dense to very dense fog conditions are likely to prevail over many places of North India during the next two days and improve thereafter with a reduction in intensity and duration.

“Many parts of Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh and Uttar Pradesh are expected to witness dense to very dense fog conditions from January 25th night to 30th morning. Dense fog conditions are very likely in some parts of Delhi on 25th night & 26th January morning,” it said.

Dense to very dense fog conditions are very likely to prevail for a few hours in night and morning in isolated pockets of Uttarakhand and Rajasthan from January 25th night to the 27th morning and over isolated pockets of Bihar from January 25th night to 30th morning, the IMD said.

North Madhya Pradesh, Sub-Himalayan West Bengal, Assam, Mizoram, Tripura and Odisha are also likely to witness dense to very dense fog conditions during 25-27 January.

Cold-day to severe cold-day conditions are likely to continue to prevail over North India during the next 2 days and decrease in intensity thereafter, the IMD said.

Parts of East Uttar Pradesh, West Uttar Pradesh, West Rajasthan, Bihar, Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh and Delhi are likely to witness cold day to severe cold day conditions from January 25-27 January.

The cold day conditions are likely to prevail over some parts of Bihar from January 25-29 and over parts of Uttarakhand and East Rajasthan on 25 and 26 January, it said.

The weather department further said that cold wave conditions is very likely to prevail over the isolated pockets of Punjab, Haryana and Chandigarh from January 25-27, over West Uttar Pradesh on January 25 and 26 and Himachal Pradesh and East Rajasthan on January 25.

The minimum temperatures over Uttarakhand, Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, North Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh were recorded in the range of 3-6 degrees Celsius during the last 24 hours.

Over some parts of Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Bihar, Jharkhand and Sub-Himalayan West Bengal it was recorded between 7-10 degrees Celsius.

The lowest minimum temperature of 3.0°C was reported at Kanpur (West Uttar Pradesh) during the last 24 hours, the IMD said.
