Mumbai/IBNS: Maharashtra on Monday surpassed Covid-19 epicentre China as the Novel Coronavirus tally in the western state of the vast country is almost touching 86,000.

As per the Indian Health Ministry's data, Maharashtra, the worst-hit state in the country, has reported 85,975 positive cases including 3,060 deaths.

China, the first country to report Coronavirus in its Wuhan city in late last year, has so far reported 84,191 cases, as per the data by John Hopkins University & Medicine.

India, which had registered a slow rise in positive cases in the initial months, added 9,983 new cases on Monday setting a new record of highest single-day spike.

With 2,56,611 reported cases since the outbreak in late January, India has placed itself in fifth position globally.

The country of 1.3 billion people is now behind the United States, Brazil, Russia and the United Kingdom.

Besides Maharashtra, India's headache is the rise in positive cases in Tamil Nadu, Delhi, Gujarat which have already registered more than 20,000 cases each.

Meanwhile, in the second phase of Lockdown 5.0 or Unlock 1.0, all religious places, shopping malls, restaurants, hotels- which form the basic socio-economic aspects of lives- have opened from Monday.

However, the entrance of people in all these places will be maintained as per Covid norms.
