Iran reports 2,282 new COVID-19 cases, 148,950 in total

Tehran/XinhuaUNI:  Iran on Saturday registered 2,282 new COVID-19 infections, bringing the total number of cases in the country to 148,950 since its outbreak in late February, according to an update by the Iranian health ministry.

Meanwhile, 57 new death cases were reported over the past 24 hours, taking the death toll to 7,734.

Kianush Jahanpur, head of Public Relations and Information Center of the ministry, said a total of 116,827 patients have recovered from the infectious disease, while 2,533 are still in critical condition and under treatment.

So far, 915,998 lab tests for COVID-19 have been carried out in the country, he noted.

Iran announced its first cases of COVID-19 on Feb. 19.
