India's Covid-19 tally reaches 81,790

New Delhi/UNI:  India's Covid tally jumped 80,000-mark on Friday after recording 3,967 new cases, while the death toll reached 2,649 with 100 more fatalities.

As per latest update from Union Health Ministry, the total number of cases now stands at 81,790, which includes 51,401 active ones.

On the brighter side, 1,685 more patients recovered, bringing the total recovery to 27,919 or 33.6 per cent.

The cases skyrocketed in Maharashtra with 1,997 new additions, taking the tally to 27,524, and making it worst-affected. The death toll also breached 1000-mark and stood at 1,019 with 44 fresh fatalities.

Tamil Nadu jumped to second spot with 447 new cases bringing the tally to 9,674. Two more fatalities, brought death toll 64.

Gujarat, not far behind, saw 407 more cases and 20 more deaths, bringing the tally to 9,674 and death toll to 586.

Meanwhile, Covid-free Goa, again got infected after registration of seven new cases. The state recorded last case on May 5.

India is currently under nationwide lockdown to arrest the spread of deadly virus. The first case was reported on January 30.
