Guwahati, July 16 (IBNS) : Swati, believed to be the oldest tigress in India, died at the age of 21 in the Assam State Zoo in Guwahati on Sunday morning, officials said.

A top official of the state zoo said Swati was the oldest living tiger till she died.

“In past couple of days, her health condition was gradually decreasing and she was under special care, but died today morning. In tiger age, her age was equivalent to 100 human years,” the forest official said.

Born in Mysore Zoo on Jan 28, 1997, Swati was brought to Guwahati in 2005.

“In Mysore, she gave birth to five cubs and in Guwahati, she gave birth to six more cubs. Among them, Birina is currently in the Assam State Zoo now and two had already died in past years,” the forest official said.
