New Delhi/IBNS: India reported 18,454 new COVID-19 cases while the toll went up by 160, the Union Health Ministry stated Thursday.

In the same span of time, 17,561 COVID-19 patients have recovered taking the recovery percentage to 98.15%, which is the highest since Mar 2020.

The active cases now account for less than 1 percent of the total cases.

However, the health experts are worried over the spike in COVID-19 cases in West Bengal, which had plunged into a big celebration of festival Durga Puja barely days ago.

The state Wednesday reported 867 new infections while the toll went up by nine in 24 hours.

In a major push in the fight against the pandemic, the country Thursday created history by crossing the one billion vaccination milestone.
