India reports 692 new Covid-19 cases, 6 deaths in past 24 hours

New Delhi/UNI: India has recorded 692 fresh Covid-19 cases and six deaths during the last 24 hours, Health Ministry data said on Thursday.

With this, the total tally of active Covid-19 cases has reached 4,097, which is 0.01 percent of the total active cases in the country.

Six deaths have been reported due to the disease with Maharashtra accounting for two deaths, while Delhi, Karnataka, Kerala, and West Bengal reported one death each, taking the total tally to 5,33,346.

According to the Health Ministry, 'The case fatality rate stands at 1.18%. The number of people who have recovered from the disease has increased to 4,44,73,448 and the national recovery rate stands at 98.81%."

On Wednesday, Delhi reported its first case of the Covid-19 sub-variant JN.1.

According to Delhi Health Minister Saurabh Bharadwaj, out of three samples sent for genome sequencing, one was identified as JN.1, while the other two were confirmed as Omicron.

In response to the surge in Covid-19 cases, the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) in Delhi has issued comprehensive guidelines.

The AIIMS Director held a meeting with department heads to discuss contingency measures. The meeting covered policies on Covid-19 testing, designated areas for positive patients, and protocols for hospitalisation.
