India fights against COVID19: Prisoners manufacture masks inside jail

Purnia/UNI: Amid reports of masks crisis in the market, the prisoners inside Purnia central jail campus have stated manufacturing it to prevent corona virus.

Jail Superintendent Jitendra Kumar sharing this information said here today that said Purnia central jail was the first ever prison in the state to manufacture masks to safeguard themselves and the humanity.

He said the prisoners were engaged in mask manufacturing since March 11 and nearly 50 prisoners were manufacturing it everyday after getting proper training. The prisoners have been provided with sewing machines as well as white cotton cloth and other required materials for the purpose and every day 500 masks were being made here inside the jail where 1421 prisoners were lodged. It takes 20 to 25 minutes to prepare one mask and each mask costs nearly Rs 15 to Rs 20, he informed.

The Jail Superintendent said that the masks were being supplied to Nawgachia, Bagha and Katihar jails adding that the prisoners of Purnia jail have also been provided with masks.

He said no one was being allowed to meet the prisoners in the jail in wake of the corona virus threats.
