New Delhi/UNI: The Centre expects to achieve 2.5 crore vaccinations by COVID-19 vaccines on Friday after India broke its record of single-day vaccination in the day, sources at Union Health Ministry said.

The country had administered 1.38 crore COVID-19 jabs till 2:59 pm, shattering its previous record of 1.33 crore vaccinations in a day that it achieved on August 31.

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has sought to make Prime Minister Narendra Modi's 71'st birthday on Friday historic by administering a record Covid-19 vaccine doses.

Dr RS Sharma, CEO, National Health Authority informed that the pace of vaccination today is 42,000 jabs per minute. "We are currently clocking over 42,000 vaccinations/minute or 700/second," he said.

This is the fourth time that India have crossed the magic figure of a 1 crore vaccination in a single day. The rare feat of over 1 crore jabs was earlier achieved on September 6, August 31 and August 27 as well.

The country had administered 1.13 crore vaccines doses on September 6 and 1.03 crore on August 27.

As of Friday morning , India had administered more than 77 crore doses of Covid-19 vaccines.
