In 2019, 124 have died from Japanese Encephalitis in Assam

Guwahati, July 26 (IBNS): Japanese Encephalitis has claimed the lives of 124 people this year in Assam with four more casualties being reported in past 24 hours.

According to the National Health Mission (NHM), a total of 124 deaths and 544 positive cases of Japanese Encephalitis have been reported till Friday in the state.

As many as 32 out of 33 districts in Assam are now affected by the disease. No reports have come in from Kokrajhar.

In past 24 hours, one person each has died in Chirang, Barpeta, Dima Hasao and Sivasagar districts.

Health minister Pijush Hazarika said the state government would totally control the disease in the next seven days.

“I think it will totally control in next seven days... We have issued order of totally free treatment for the Japanese Encephalitis patients,” Hazarika said.
