Harsh Vardhan urges scientific community to come up with innovative solutions
Kolkata, May 1 (IBNS): Union Science and Technology Minister Harsh Vardhan urged the scientists and scholars whom he referred to as 'the creme of the society' to become role models for the country, bring more innovative approach in place of routine works and come up with out-of-the-box solutions for the country's problems.
Vardhan was addressing the faculty, scientists, staff and scholars of Indian Association for the Cultivation of Science (IACS), here on Friday.
The Minister further said, there are extraordinary talents and capable scientists in the country who are responsible for successful scientific and technological ventures like the Mars Orbiter Mission and Rota Virus Vaccine to name a few.
These achievements have been accomplished in the academic and research institutions of the country which have excelled much more than we can think of, feels the Minister.
Hence, the country has the required potential to bring many more Nobels and accolades like the one Sir C.V. Raman won because of his research work carried out in IACS where the Minister was present on Friday.
He stressed on the importance of taking up scientific and research projects which are oriented towards development of the country’s position and condition.
Making special mention of Prime Minister’s pet project, Swatchch Bharat Mission, the Minister stated that it is a holistic concept which calls for special attention of the scientists.
In this context, he stated that our Prime Minister is a very dynamic person with a great vision and he respects intellectual acumen, professional advice and means to take the country to new heights in the fields of science and technology.
Hence, he urged the scientific community to start a new brainstorming on how to take science forward in the country.
Vardhan further said, scientific fraternity around the country needs to develop a better system of co-ordination so that they remain aware about the progress made by one another in research work.
The Minister mentioned that many laymen in remote districts and unknown corners of the country have evolved innovative solutions for their day-to-day problems which remain unnoticed and unknown.
He urged the scientific fraternity to develop a strong network so that these small advancements can be brought to the fore. Such small inputs by everyone goes to play an important role in nation-buiding, opined the Minister.
Vardhan urged the scientists and researchers to start with a fresh mood, gather inspiration from the country’s glorious past and aim for a brighter future.
He assured them of all possible help from the Prime Minister and the government.
He also urged them to make optimal use of resources in their scientific pursuits. Narrating the story of how success came in the campaign to make India Polio-free, he stated, apparently impossible goals can be converted into reality by virtue of dedication, determination and sincerity.
Speaking on the future prospects of IACS, Harsh Vardhan informed that a complicacy has arisen about the 20 acres of land earmarked for the expansion programme of IACS at Baruipur of S- 24 Parganas district. He, however assured that he will take up the matter with the Chief Minister of West Bengal, Smt Mamata Banerjee to solve the impasse.
Earlier, the Minister was welcomed to the institute by the Director of IACS, Santanu Bhattacharya who presented him with a shawl, a brochure of the institute and a replica of the instrument which won Sir C.V. Raman the first Nobel prize for Physics in Asia.
