Mumbai, Feb 1 (IBNS): As the fire in Mumbai's Deonar garbage dumping ground rages on, covering parts of central Mumbai in thick smog, government schools in the Shivaji Nagar and Deonar area remained closed for the fourth consecutive day on Monday.
The fire, which started on Thursday at Mumbai's largest dumping ground on the city's eastern fringe, has enveloped a large part of the city in a thick blanket of smog.

Some people have fallen ill from the smoke arising from the fire in the dumping ground.

At least 14 fire engines, eight water tankers are working round the clock to douse the fire, according to local media reports.

Weather officials expect the Mumbai's air quality to remain between 'poor' and 'very poor' in the coming days,

On Saturday, Mumbai  found itself among the top 10 most polluted cities in the country.
