Kolkata/Siliguri/IBNS: All members of a special medical team, which was deployed to North Bengal to support health facilities there to combat Covid-19, have been quarantined after a doctor tested positive for novel coronavirus, officials said on Saturday.

According to reports, the 26-member medical team, including 21 doctors, two nurses, a radiologist and two non-medical staff (technicians), reached Siliguri from Kolkata on Thursday night in a special bus arranged by West Bengal government.

After the team arrived at Siliguri, swab samples of all 26 members of the expert team, as well as of the driver and helper of the bus, were tested on Friday and sample of an eye-specialist of the team was found positive for Covid-19.

Health officials of North Bengal Medical College and Hospital said that the Covid-19 infected doctor was admitted to an isolation ward of Dr. Chang's Super Specialty Hospital in Siliguri while remaining 25 members of the medical expert team as well as the bus's driver-helper were sent into compulsory 14-day quarantine as per protocol.

"Except one doctor of the team, all other 27 passengers of the bus, including 25 team members and the vehicle's driver and helper, have tested negative for Covid-19, but as per protocol, they have been quarantined for next 14 days," a state health official said.

"Their samples will be tested again as per guidelines and the bus will be sanitized and disinfected thoroughly," the officer added.
