New Delhi: Children aged 12-14 years are now eligible for the COVID-19 vaccination and will be able to take their first dose from Mar 16, it was announced on Monday.

The vaccine approved for this is Biological E's Corbevax, the Central government said.

Teenagers aged above 14 (15-17 years) will continue to be vaccinated with Bharat Biotech's Covaxin.

"The Union government after due deliberations with scientific bodies has decided to start COVID-19 vaccination for 12-13 and 13-14 age groups (those born in 2008, 2009, 2010) from Mar 16.

"The vaccine to be administered would be Corbevax manufactured by Biological E. Ltd, Hyderabad," a Health Ministry statement said.

"(Those) above 14 years of age (are) already being administered COVID-19 vaccine," it added.

Meanwhile, the condition of co-morbidity for the population above 60 has been removed.

All senior citizens irrespective of co-morbid conditions are now eligible for their precaution dose of COVID-19 vaccine and can avail the additional jab from Mar 16, the government said.
