COVID 19 outbreak: Doctor, who treated India’s first fatal case, now tests positive

Kalaburagi/IBNS: The doctor, who had treated the first victim of coronavirus in India, has tested positive for COVID 19, media reports said on Tuesday.

According to Kalaburagi Deputy Commissioner Sharat B, the 63-year-old doctor will soon be shifted to an isolation ward. Currently, he has been placed under quarantine at his home along with his family members, reported Times Now.

The coronavirus infected man died in Karnataka’s Kalburgi area recently, marking the first fatality due to the virus in India.

So far, Karnatak has recorded 10 Coronavirus infected cases.

B Sriramulu, Karnataka’s health and family welfare minister, tweeted: "We have got 2 more #COVID2019 cases in Karnataka taking the total number of confirmed cases to 10. 20 yr old female who traveled from UK is tested positive & another contact of P6 (kalburgi deceased patient) is tested positive. Both are admitted in designated isolation hospital."

India has so far seen the deaths of three people due to coronavirus.

In the latest case, a 64-year old man passed away at Mumbai's Kasturba Hospital.

The deceased, who had returned from Dubai, was first admitted to Hinduja Hospital and later shifted to an isolation facility at Kasturba Hospital.

The man's wife and son have also tested COVID-19 positive.

So far, 126 people including 13 cured and three deaths have been infected by the deadly Coronavirus.

The western state of Maharashtra recorded the maximum number of positive cases (36) followed by Kerala (22).
