Shanghai: People in Shanghai city, which is currently under lockdown amid COVID-19 crisis, are facing acute food shortages, media reports said on Tuesday.

They say that they “only eat one meal a day” and “don’t know how to live until May” and some pregnant women are also starving, crying desperately for help, reports The HK Post.

The pandemic situation in the megacity is still deteriorating, and the number of infected people is still high under the “zero” lockdown dictate of the Chinese government, the news portal reported.

Meanwhile, Guangzhou city is slowly starting to witness a rise in COVID-19 cases, forcing authorities to tighten restrictions.

The southern city of Guangzhou closed in-person classes at elementary and middle schools as of Monday, shifting courses online. The measures will last for at least a week, according to a city announcement over the weekend, reports CNBC.

Municipal authorities even directed locals not to leave the city unless necessary, and would need a negative virus test within the last 48 hours to do so.

The city registered 27 new Covid cases on Sunday.
