Santiago/Xinhua: The Chilean Ministry of Health reported on Sunday that the decline in new cases of the novel coronavirus disease continues in 15 regions of the country.

The ministry stated that 15 regions of Chile have decreased new cases in the last seven days and 14 have done so in the last 14 days.

The only region with a considerable increase in new confirmed cases in the last week is Los Rios, in the south of the country.

Another 5,521 new cases of COVID-19 were reported on Sunday, bringing the total to 1,247,469, with 36,406 patients in the active stage, said the ministry.

The national death toll rose to 27,218 with 117 more deaths.

Chilean authorities have announced the decision to reduce quarantine measures and to resume activities such as trade and face-to-face classes in municipalities where the numbers of COVID-19 cases have decreased.

The ministry reported Thursday that 28 communities in the country would come out of quarantine starting Monday to join the 21 municipalities where confinement was lifted this week.
