Bihar: Health services affected at hospitals after junior doctors go on strike
Patna, Apr 8 (UNI) Health services were badly affected in medical colleges and hospitals after junior doctors went on an indefinite strike in protest against enrollment of students of All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) in post graduate courses in state`s medical colleges through state quota.
The admission of AIIMS students into PG courses in the state`s medical colleges will start from April 12.
Junior doctors are considered as the main workforce at government medical college and hospitals and their strike has started causing major inconvenience to the common people.
On the other hand, Patna Medical College and Hospital (PMCH) superintendent Dr Rajiv Ranjan Prasad claimed that health service was not hit at PMCH, the premier hospital of Bihar, due to the strike.
“Health care is being provided to visiting patients as usual,” he asserted adding that duty hours of senior doctors had been doubled to cope with the situation.
Dr Prasad said that doctors from other government hospitals in Bhojpur, Buxar and other districts had been deputed at PMCH. He said that at least 22 doctors from outside PMCH had been deputed at the hospital so far to meet the situation.
Meanwhile, PMCH Junior Doctors’ Association president Dr Shankar Bharti said that over 1000 junior doctors had gone on indefinite strike at nine medical colleges and hospitals of the state. He said that junior doctors were protesting against enrollment of students of AIIMS-Patna into post graduate courses of medical science at various colleges through state quota instead through central quota.
Dr Shankar said that students of AIIMS were getting enrolled into PG course through all-India quota.
He said that junior doctors would not call off their strike until state government stopped enrollment of AIIMS students into PG courses at the state`s medical colleges through state quota.
