Assam to procure 1 lakh rapid testing kits for COVID-19

Guwahati/IBNS: Assam government has decided to procure 1 lakh rapid testing kits for COVID-19.

Assam Health minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma said the state government has taken a decision to procure at least 1 lakh rapid testing kits for COVID-19 and the procurement process has started.

“The suppliers told us they will able to provide the testing kits on April 22 or April 23. The state government has urged the centre to help the state for conducting rapid test for COVID-19. Subject to availability of rapid test kit, Assam government has also decided to test at least 1 lakh persons in the state for suspected COVID-19,” Himanta Biswa Sarma said.

Assam on Friday has reported its first death related to COVID-19 as a 65-year-old man who tested positive for COVID-19 died at Silchar Medical College Hospital.

A total of 29 positive cases for COVID-19 have been reported in the state so far.
