Assam: Four new COVID-19 cases reported

Guwahati/UNI: Four new COVID 19 positive cases have been detected in Assam so far today, while the third dead due to the infection was also reported in the state.

The total number of COVID 19 positive cases now stands at 104 in the state.

State Health Minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma informed that two new cases of COVID 19 positive have been reported in the state this morning.

One case was detected from Jorhat and the other from Nagaon. Both were in quarantine centres.

Two more cases were reported from Golaghat district of the state.

The Minister further informed that the person who died was a cancer patient who had returned from Mumbai, along with other patients and their attendants, in special buses arranged by the state government.

Dr Sarma wrote on Twitter: “Extremely sad to share that Gopindra Ch Malakar, 71, who returned from Mumbai & had neck cancer + Covid positive passed away at 11.05 am at GMCH owing to respiratory distress.”

The wife and son of the deceased, who had travelled with him from Mumbai and were being kept in a city hotel, have been shifted to MMC Hospital here for further screening.

Altogether seven patients and their attendants among over 60 people who had returned from Mumbai in the special buses had tested positive for COVID 19 here.

With this, the total number of COVID 19 positive cases in the state has reached 104, out of which 41 have recovered and three have died so far.
