Assam flood situation improves, death toll rises to 25

Guwahati/IBNS: The overall flood situation in Assam has been improving, but more than 6.50 lakh people in 22 districts are still reeling under the floods.

The situation is still critical in Nagaon, Cachar, Darrang and Morigaon districts.

According to the reports of Assam State Disaster Management Authority, nearly 3.51 lakh people have been affected alone in Nagaon district followed by 1.98 lakh in Cachar district, 44514 in Hojai, and 40345 in Morigaon district.

One person died after drowning in floodwaters in the Cachar district on Monday, taking the death toll in floods and landslides to 25.

About 82,503 hectares of cropland and 1709 villages are still under water.

A total of 90,597 flood affected people are currently lodged in 366 relief camps set up by the district administration.

The administration of flood-hit districts also set up 290 relief distribution centres.
