Assam CM directs swift action on caterpillar menace

| | Sep 14, 2016, at 09:27 pm
Guwahati, Sept 14 (IBNS): Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal on Wednesday directed Deputy Commissioners to personally inspect the farming lands with the concerned District Agricultural Officers in their districts to assess the damage caused by the swarming caterpillar or army worm and take all necessary action to contain the problem.

The armyworm menace has resulted in the heavy damage to the standing crops in many hectares of agricultural land in the state.

The Assam CM said that the swarming caterpillar attack on the farming lands has been taken very seriously by the Government and all efforts have been made for swift and immediate action to control the situation.

For that purpose, Deputy Commissioners themselves have been directed to go for field verification so that the armyworm menace can be prevented from affecting more farming lands.
