A musical start to Durga Puja for Covid-19 Patients at CMRI

Patients at CMRI are celebrating the auspicious festival with music.

A light-hearted environment punctuated with songs and "adda" is a rare sight at any Covid ward. But that is exactly what you would find at the Covid Wards at CMRI. The once gloomy atmosphere has been transformed into a lively high-spirited setting.

Gautam Saha, who was admitted to CMRI after testing Covid positive, has spread nothing but positivity among his co-patients with a splendid musical performance on ‘Soshti’ evening churning out old classics one after the other.

After being cajoled into singing a song by his co-patients, an otherwise dull evening was instantly brought to life. Saha was visibly overcome with happiness and emotion at the reception he received from his ward-mates.

He put in a word of praise for the doctors, nurses and other staff members of the hospital who, according to him, have been a constant source of strength and hope in these trying times, helping him and everyone else to stay positive.

Another patient said, "We are enjoying these musical soirees and now this hospital ward feels like home."

He went on to praise Goutam, saying "He is a very talented singer and I’ve become a big fan of his voice. To hear the old classics of Manna Dey in his voice have been a joy like none other.”

On the auspicious occasion of Durga Puja, Dr. Simmardeep Gill, COO, CK Birla Hospitals said, "The festive and joyous atmosphere that usually prevails during this time of the year has been dampened to some extent due to the spread of the pandemic.

"At our hospital, we are at the forefront of this fight and it has been a long, hard fight with the end nowhere in sight. Whilst working in healthcare has given us a great opportunity to step up and help humanity, probably it is the darkest hour of need."

He further added, "These patients at the ward are living up tospirit of pujo and are reminding us that the spirit of the human species is stronger than anything else in this world. There is no power that can keep it suppressed. The positivity that they have shared even during this time is remarkable. These patients are definitely among the true COVID warriors.

"Every single day they set an example that we must never give up. Even in the direst of circumstances there is light. The devil will eventually be vanquished and the battle will be won."
