6.8 earthquake hits Myanmar - India Border Region, tremors felt in Kolkata

Kolkata/Guwahati, Apr 13 (IBNS): An earthquake measuring 6.8 on the Richter Scale hit Myanmar - India Border Region as tremors were felt across several Indian cities on Wednesday, officials said.

The IMD, which mentioned the intensity of the quake at 6.8,  termed the quake as 'Moderate'.

The epicentre of the quake was located at latitide 23.0 degrees north and  longitude 94.9 degrees east and at a depth of 134 km.

USGS, however, termed the intensity of the quake at 6.9 on the Richter Scale.

The earthquake occurred at 19:25 hrs (IST).

Tremors were felt in Indian cities like Kolkata, Patna and Guwahati.

People rushed out of buildings and many were seen blowing conch shells in Kolkata.

No casualty has been reported so far.
