24 new cases, two deaths recorded in Puducherry

Coronavirus infection continued in the downward trend in the Union territory with just 24 persons tested positive in the last 24 hours, ending at 10 AM, on Thursday.

However, after a gap of a few days, two fatalities were reported during the period.

According to the COVID-19 status released by the health department here, of the 1570 swab sample tests conducted on Wednesday, 24 swab samples came out positive for the virus.

Twelve of the new cases were in Puducherry region and six each in Karaikal and Mahe regions.

No new cases were reported in Yanam region for the last two days.

As many as 18 patients were discharged in the last 24 hours. 10 of them were from Puducherry region, six from Mahe region and one each from Karaikal and Yanam regions.

Both the deaths were reported in Puducherry region.

Presently, 107 patients were being treated in Puducherry region, eight in Karaikal region, nine in Yanam region and 85 in Mahe region.

Another 165 persons diagnosed positive were taking treatment under home isolation in all the four regions of the UT.

So far, 37,363 persons were infected by the virus and of which 36,372 patients were treated and discharged, 617 persons died and 374 patients were undergoing treatment in hospitals and home isolation.

The Case fatality rate in the UT is 1.65 per cent and the recovery rate is 97.35 per cent.

Two men---Muthukumar(45) and Abdul Wahid (72) died in Jipmer yesterday. Both were not having any co-morbidity.

While,Muthukumar died of Septic Shock and Refractory Hypoxemia, Wahid died of Covid Pneumonia and Acute Respiratory Distress Syndrome.
