Yamaha storms into India’s EV Market with Rs. 1.67 Lakh EC-06
Two-wheeler major India Yamaha Motor (IYM) Pvt. Ltd. on Monday announced the launch of its first electric scooter, the EC-06, priced at ₹1,67,600 (ex-showroom, Delhi). The model will be available in Bluish White and retailed through Yamaha’s premium Blue Square showrooms in select cities.
The EC-06 marks Yamaha’s strategic entry into India’s electric mobility segment, reinforcing its commitment to ecological sustainability. The launch aligns with the Government of India’s ‘National Mission on Transformative Mobility’ and the country’s goal of achieving net-zero emissions by 2070. Yamaha said the new model also supports its broader carbon-neutrality goals and India’s vision for a greener, self-reliant future.
Targeted at urban commuters seeking a modern, stylish and practical mobility solution, the EC-06 offers a certified range of 169 km, making it suitable for daily travel needs.
The scooter integrates Yamaha’s core design DNA with contemporary aesthetics, featuring a stable stance and elevated proportions for improved manoeuvrability in traffic. Its horizontal core layout enhances structural balance and precision, while sharp body lines cater to younger riders seeking a distinctive yet functional commuting option.
Developed in India with a global outlook, the EC-06 is powered by an IPMSM (Interior Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motor) paired with a 4kWh fixed battery. It delivers a top speed of 79 km/h, peak power of 6.7 kW, and maximum torque of 26 Nm, offering performance suited for everyday urban use.
The battery comes with a three-year or 30,000 km warranty. Charging can be done via a standard home plug-in, with a full charge taking approximately eight hours. The scooter’s motor and battery are IP67 certified, while other electronic components carry IP65 certification, ensuring water and dust resistance.
The EC-06 features three riding modes — Eco, Standard and Power — allowing users to balance efficiency and performance as needed. A reverse mode assists in tight parking situations. Suspension duties are handled by telescopic front forks with hydraulic dampers and a rear coil spring suspension, designed for a comfortable urban ride.
For safety, the scooter is equipped with 200 mm front and rear disc brakes supported by a Combi Brake System (CBS) for improved stability. A colour LCD display provides real-time information on speed, battery status, riding modes and connectivity features. LED headlamps and taillights enhance visibility while adding to the scooter’s modern styling.
The EC-06 integrates Yamaha’s “Motor Connect R” app, enabling real-time data access and connected features. It also offers 24.5 litres of under-seat storage, providing ample space for helmets and daily essentials.
Commenting on the launch, Hajime Aota, Chairman of Yamaha Motor India Group, said the EC-06 represents an important step in Yamaha’s journey toward sustainable urban mobility.
