TDK opens ₹3,000 cr lithium-ion battery plant in Haryana to power India’s electronics ecosystem
Sohna (Haryana): Japanese firm TDK Corporation, which supplies batteries to Apple, opened a Rs 3,000 crore lithium-ion battery plant in Haryana’s Sohna.
The production will commence, starting with small-scale production, in the fourth quarter of 2025 and gradually expand to 20 crore battery packs annual capacity, subject to customer demand.
The facility was inaugurated by Union Minister for Electronics and IT Ashwini Vaishnaw.
Vaishnaw said the facility signifies a major milestone in India’s vision to develop a complete electronics manufacturing value chain.
“This plant will manufacture about 20 crore battery packs every year, meeting nearly 40% of India’s requirement for mobile phone batteries. It also has huge expansion scope,” he said.

The new plant will manufacture batteries for wearables like watches and earbuds, mobile phones, laptops, and wireless gadgets.
TDK’s key clients include Apple, top smartphone brands, and laptop makers among its key customers.
Set up under the government’s Electronics Manufacturing Cluster (EMC) scheme, the minister stated that the project will directly provide jobs to more than 5,000 people.
The factory sprawls across 180 acres, Haryana Industries and Commerce Minister Rao Narbir Singh said, and is likely to provide a big push to the state’s manufacturing ecosystem.
Fumio Sashida, CEO of TDK’s Energy Solutions Business Company, stated that the Sohana facility will be ready to cater to all industry players looking to source lithium-ion batteries.
